Etsy Seller Q&A - Meet Zodiaque Bath

{Cancer Zodiac Sign Bath Salts}

1. Why don't you start by telling the readers a little bit about yourself.

I'm a lover of collections, vintage and thrift store shopping, & beautiful sights and smells. I seem to have developed too many facets over the years to be "boxed" into one category. I was born & raised on the west coast (Southern California), moved to the east coast (for 6 years while my husband earned his graduate degree) and find myself SMACK dab in the middle now (Texas)...so I like to think I am a mashup of East, West and South! I've also traveled around the world from Alberta to Zurich, stopping in Thailand, Japan, England and more.

2. How did you get started working with bath salts?

From a young age, I was interested in aromatherapy & the Zodiac and would check out books from the library on the subjects. I was an avid reader and did a lot of research on my own. My mother was a "hippie" of sorts and studied health and nutrition in college, so I've always had natural healing on the mind and have seen it in practice. I find taking care of one's body and mind in this stressful world is very important and began making bath salts for myself and friends. I decided I loved it enough to share with the rest of the world and here I am.

3. Describe your studio...

My studio is in my home. My husband walks by when I'm in the creating zone and believes me to be a chemist or alchemist with my beakers and eyedroppers and such!

4. How soon after you started creating did you decide to turn your craft into a business?

I have been creating bath salt blends for a few years now, and just upon having my first child in February, which meant leaving my workplace did I begin this adventure into a home-based business.

5. What else do you like to do when you're not working on your crafts?

Taking care of my cutie pie, Hadley. After 12 years with my husband, we finally added a bundle of joy (or spit up queen, diaper filler, milk guzzler) to our family just 3 months ago. The moments she is napping are the moments I create! Also I love to attend food festivals, local art shows and new restaurants in the community.

6. Are their any Etsy sellers you admire or are inspired by?

dennisanderson - they are the 2nd top seller on Etsy for Bath & Beauty products, so I really want to learn from how they do their business. They have fantastic products as well and just seem like cool people. Plus it's a GUY making soap & beauty products...how often do you see that happen, really?!

7. What is the most difficult and your most favorite part of crafting as a business?

Well really I'm just starting out so just beginning to have my first excitements & disappointments. Within the first few days of opening my shop I got (3) purchases which I was very pleased about and was so excited that I'd be "working" to make many orders. However, after that I didn't get any new orders so I'm in the process of learning how things sell on Etsy and what the best strategy is go get the word out to the right customers that will love my products! It's difficult seeing so many views on my items, but not many follow through buyers...I guess that's the most frustrating part.

8. What is your favorite: a) scent? b) movie? c) blog/website? d) guilty pleasure?

A) Jasmine. Ever since I visited Hawaii and had a lei made from the flowers, the scent transports me to the islands where everything is carefree and beautiful
B) Savuer.com - I'm a foodie at heart!
C) Can I say my new favorite website is MINE? Hee hee I just started it, so am excited about it: zodiaquebathproducts.blogspot.com/
D) Taking a bath in my own bath salts, with a glass of red wine and plate of fancy cheeses :-)

9. Lastly, do you have any advice for fellow crafters/entrepreneurs just starting out?

Well I'm just starting myself, but I've already found that this takes WORK. So don't be discouraged when your store doesn't automatically sale out of all your products. Research your customer base, connect with others, learn from the pros that have been at it awhile and most of all believe in yourself and be flexible to bend and sway with the rhythm of the market if you really want to sell.

I have a special coupon code for everyone who "LIKES" my Facebook page for 15% off the total order: FBFRIENDS

Wish me luck and I'll send some your way as well! Shiloh @ Zodiaque
